Rock Fest.

Thrusday I saw Reel Big Fish and 3 Doors Down live.
3 Fucking Doors Down!
I went to the Dubai Desert Rock Festival with LuLu (who actually wanted to wear pink! Ha!).
It was a blast.
My ears are still ringing and my voice still hasn't gone back to normal but it was worth it!
And it was one hell of a workout.
(Plus I got to top off my tan.)

I'm trying to post a picture of the stage but Blogger isn't cooperating.
I'll do it later.

P.S. Both bands ROCK live!

Update: Picture's up!

Sounds like 3 doors down could pack the biggest concert hall in the Riyadh!

More seriously, I would love to hear more about your culture. What kind of music to people typically go out to see there? Is it mostly Arabic or do you also see musical groups from other countries? Are their any Saudi bands that you like to go see? What are their names?

Helen of Troy this took place in the U.A.E (United Arab Emirates), in Saudi just like with any country, their inhabitants have a wide range of musical taste. Performing in Saudi is close to impossible for a foreigner, unless you like weddings and don't mind being paid ridicoulous amounts of money.

Oh, sorry! I thought that this concert was in Saudi Arabia. Why can't foreign musicians perform in Saudi Arabia?

I don't understand what you mean about weddings--do you mean that you have to marry a Saudi Arabian citizen in order to play music there?

There is no live music in Saudi Arabia except at weddings and other special occasions. The music played is always Khaleeji Tagg music. ALWAYS.

Yes, Western bands do rock out loud. Sad that there are no cool Muslim bands.

How would you know?

I would know because no Western person has ever heard of a cool Muslim rock band. They don't exist. Especially not a Saudi rock band.

There are cool rock bands in countries all over the world. Just because you've never heard them or they don't get played on Western radio doesn't mean they don't exist.

There are MANY Saudi rock bands. I'll bet some are even better than 3 Doors Down.

Excuse me ?! There arent what in Saudi Arabia ? Im in 2 bands myself, thats other than the 7 i know here in Riyadh alone .. And we dont have live performances ? Oh yes we do have live performances, on the 18th of may, Khubar witnessed the biggest 'LOCAL' Metal conert in the Middle East .. And that was the 3rd concert held in Khubar !! There are alot of bands over here in KSA (mainly Jeddah Riyadh and Khubar), Metal and Rock bands that is .. And yes, belive it or not, that concert WAS official .. It even had Saudi officers at the gates and all around to make sure nothing goes wrong, and YES it WAS mixed .. You ppl are missing ALOT, start asking around and ull get to know wuts REALLY going on over here, dont miss the fun !
