Yes, I Still Watch Survivor. Leave Me Alone.

Who watches Survivor Cook Islands?
It's fascinating.
I'm serious.

At first I bought the whole "social experiment" thing. But now I know better.
Firstly, people shouldn't be thought of as Asian, Hispanic, black, or caucasian, let alone be sorted according to race. People are people. Race should never have been an issue, ever.

Secondly, I don't consider myself at all racist. I'm probably the farthest thing from it.
But this is what I caught coming myself saying while watching Survivor:

"I hope the Japanese team wins.

... Asian, sorry."

"How come the black guy's so aggresive?"

"That blonde girl is such an idiot. My God!"

I rest my case.

I'm not saying watching Survivor will make you racist. I'm saying it makes you say things and think things.
Not all Koreans are smart, idealistic, and good looking. (Okay maybe they are.)
Not all men of African decent are aggressive.
And not all blondes are stupid.

Other than that, I'm actually enjoying it.

I hope Yul wins.
I also hope I'm not the only one who wants him and the other Korean chick (Rebecca?) to hook up. They'd be the cutest couple in the world.

Go Yul!

Okay. Gushing over.

Actually, post over.

It's American TV. Of course they chose a blonde who was stupid and a black guy who was agressive. They have their agenda. I don't know why American TV is like this but it is. I was watching the first season of Desperate Housewives on DVD (I'd never seen it before). The only black woman in the whole thing is a prostitute. I think there were 2 black men. One of them was a hired assasin. Hmmm....

damn i hate rascism and sterotyping people. whoever said black women have to be prostitutes and black men have to be agressive. there are all kinds of people in every country, color and religion.

worst part is, people know this but continue to act the way they do. it's sad, really.

Hi!
I'm just a random passerby, but I LOVED your thoughts on this show! I too am exactly like you- I was a little skeptical on this whole "race" thing, esp. b/c in this time & age people SHOULDN'T be grouped as a race. Moreso, my friend who's parents are from India said to me, "Ummm, so why is America still thinking there's only black, white, "asian" & "spanish" ppl. What about us, brown ppl, who are also Asian??" She bought up a good point that 1. color can be so subjective (I've seen light coloured blacks who shouldn't be called "blacks") 2. what about the mixed ppl (esp. those from the D.R. or Panama, where they are "spanish" but would be considered "black" b/c of their skin color- like that guy on the black team who has a spanish last name. and #3. Survivor claims they wanted to have a racially diverse cast & represent "all major groups of colour in America" but what about the Indians ppl. We mean the Aboriginals & the Desis!

Also, I found it really scary that b/c the groups were grouped like that in the beginning, I too found myself saying very stereotypically things, like "oh my god, way to put the black ppl in the water challenge... i guess black ppl can't swim". Which is horrible, b/c I know so many althetic Afro-Americans! Anyways, all in all, Survivor just wanted people to watch & we did, luckily they kept our interest by melting the groups by the 2nd episode :D Cheers!

Personally i think racism will never end until we all accept the concept of UMMAH in its totality. Not only do we have racism across races but also within race. Like u not from the same tribe or caste, BUT hopefully that time will come wen race will not be an issue

All of us are born into this world the same - naked, bloody and screaming.

Most babies are born with blue eyes. Even those from dark-eyed parents. Their eyes turn dark quickly, but when they are born, they are blue.

The producers of "Survivor" thought they could stir up "controversy" and boost their ratings with people tuning in to see what all the fuss was about. Maybe they succeeded with some people.

I deliberately did not even try to find out what channel was airing that show. I won't watch it. But I really won't watch it if I know that the producers are emotionally manipulating people to watch.

I'll read Ubergirl87's blog instead.

Asian pride! I like seeing that we share some of the same views, an asshole is an asshole no matter what color they are and dumb people shouldn't breed.

Whats sad is that our own Muslim brothers and sisters get involved in racism.

So much for unity...
